5 Quick Social Media Tips for February 2024

We know. It’s darn near impossible to keep up with the changing landscape of social platforms. Don’t be discouraged – I’ll try and give a few tips in this quick read to give you some easy takeaways. Let’s not waste time and get right into it.

TikTok’s New Horizontal, Longer-form Push

It’s interesting that the platform that reinvented how we consume content is asking people to have a “legacy” way of thinking, but here we are. The platform recently began sending alerts to creators, telling them that posts over a minute long in landscape form (horizontal) would receive increased views. Bottom line here whether this push is here to stay, or whether or not it succeeds, right now, horizontal videos that are over a minute long will get an extra boost, as when platforms roll out a new feature, they push it.

LinkedIn Links in Captions

It’s no surprise that LinkedIn doesn’t want you leaving the platform – so if you are adding links in your captions, the dreaded ALGORITHM doesn’t prioritize posts with those outbound links. I’ll take this opportunity to say that if you can, put as much information as you can (like this) into the post and allow readers to consume the content right here and now without a “read more” link. While this may not line up with a goal of more traffic, it will build engagement and community on the platform.

Authenticity is King

In a world of filters and curated contet, authenticity is king. Embrace the imperfections, share behind-the-scenes, and let your audience see the real you. Building trust and a genuine connection is extremely valuable, and once that is in place, you can begin “caling to action”.

Humans Make the Best Stars

While you may want to show off a new product, nothing beats the charm of human connection. Show somebody talking about your product, show it in use, anything to get that personal touch in there. Humanize!

Social Channels As a Search Engine

More and more users are turning tot he social channels as a search engine, so don’t be afraid to use long captions (and hashtags, of course). Long captions may or may not always be read, but it gives you plenty of room to pack some keywords in there. If they users read it through, great – if they don’t, they will find you easier if you are who they are searching for.

Stay curious, stay authentic, and have fun. Let’s make 2024 a year of engaging content, genuine connections, and growth.
