For those of you that don’t know me, I enjoy running, and I sometimes run marathons. There comes a time before every marathon, usually about 2:30am, while I am waiting for the bus to take us to the starting line. When the overwhelming feeling takes over- “why am I doing this?”
The question comes because of an awareness of what is ahead. It’s going to get really hard and really painful. Nobody is making me do this. I don’t have to be here, and I know how difficult things are about to be. I could still be in bed, I could sleep in, I could spend the day with my family… yet, there I stand, and onto the bus I go. The point of no return. I do it because I know that after all the pain, if I simply don’t quit, I will reach the finish line and be rewarded with completing another marathon. Nothing worth having in life comes easily.
I feel now as if I am boarding the bus, heading to the starting line of the ultimate marathon. “Why am I doing this?” I am terrified because I am aware of what is ahead, it’s going to get really hard and really painful. Nobody is making me do this. I could still be at my job, I could find a new job, I could settle. Yet, here I am, taking the biggest risk of my life because I know that after all the hard work, if I simply don’t quit, I will be a business owner and be rewarded by helping as many businesses as possible grow along the way. Nothing worth having in life comes easily.
Similarly, you are running your own marathon. Being a business owner is incredibly difficult, with many ups and downs along the way. But- it’s going to be worth it.
